Why is it important?
The serpentine belt is one giant belt that keeps your alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning, and even your water pump operational. Older vehicles used to have multiple belts, but more modern ones have a single continuous belt that is integral for the operation of your vehicle.
What we inspect
Serpentine belt replacement can sometimes require just that: a belt replacement. During engine operation, the serpentine belt is worn away at the walls of the belt’s ribs. If the only reason for belt replacement is general wear and tear, the solution is straightforward. However, other engine components like the tensioner and idler pulley can be in need of replacement, as well. Our technicians will do a thorough inspection and determine what is and isn’t necessary, and share it with you, so you can determine what’s best.
When should you get a serpentine belt inspection & replacement?
Most serpentine belts are built to last for the long haul, although their life span can vary widely between 60 000 and 100 000 miles. If it breaks, your vehicle won’t run at all, so you want to stay on top of the signs before the worst happens. Pay attention to any squealing noises from the car engine while in operation.
